DETAILED PROGRAM
DAY 1 . MOSCOW-URGENCH-KHIVA
Arrival in Urgench at 07:10. Driver will be waiting for you in the airport. Transfer to the hotel in Khiva (an hour of driving). Rest after the flight. Late breakfast. You will start sightseeing in one of the oldest cities of the Great Silk Road. The city is well-known for a huge number of madrasahs and majestic minarets. You will get acquainted with the culture of Khorezmians and taste traditional dishes of this region (I recommend to try fish in the guest house of Madamin aka). In your free time you can have a walk along the old streets of Ichan Kalaa and enjoy oriental atmosphere while acquiring souvenirs. In the evening, you can observe sunset on the roof of the wall of the city. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel in Khiva.
DAY 2 . KHIVA-BUKHARA
Breakfast at the hotel. Free time for a walk around the city. Transfer to the railway atation /airport Khiva (16:05-00:15) Depending on dates and flights. On the way we will cross the main water artery of Uzbekistan Amu Darya and see the endless desert Kyzylkum. I recommend taking lunch boxes with you. Arrival in Bukhara. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Overnight at the hotel in Bukhara.
DAY 3 . BUKHARA
Breakfast at the hotel at 09:00. After breakfast we will visit craft workshops for observing how silk carpets are woven and old fabrics are made along with embroidery pieces called Suzani. Next, we have a walk along Jewish quarter and visit synagogue from the late 16th century, famous trading domes of Bukhara (the same century as synagogue). We will continue with an excursion in a famous complex in Bukhara called Lyabi Kauz. Constructions there were build in 16th and 17th centuries. Poi Kalon square will be the last historical sight to see for today. It consists of the edifices from 12th and 16th centuries. You have opportunity to acquire handmade products of the local craftsmen in the old part of the city, have a look to the blacksmith workshop in 7th generation and observe the process of making well-known Bukharian knives and other workshops of carpet waving, metal carving and workshop of the artists who draw miniatures. You will have free time after lunch. You can reserve master class in any craft workshop or in an ordinary Uzbek family’s house in order to participate in preparing process of traditional dish along with the owners of the house. For the evening, I would recommend to visit bathhouse (hammam) from 16th century.
DAY 4 . BUKHARA
After breakfast, we will start our excursion in the suburb area of the city Bukhara. It includes the complex of the Sufi Bahauddin Nakshbandi, the summer residence of Emir “Sitorai Mokhi Khossa”, the mausoleum of the Samanids and the local market. Overnight in Bukhara.
We return to the city and participate in cooking class of pilaf (optional). After lunch, you will have free time. Overnight at the hotel in Bukhara.
DAY 5. BUKHARA-SAMARKAND
Breakfast at the hotel. Free time for shopping in Bukhara. Transfer to Kagan railway station at 14:30. Transfer to Samarkand. Arrival in Samarkand. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. For dinner you can try local dishes in restaurants like Karimbek/Samarkand/Platan. After dinner, I recommend you to visit Registan square in night lights.
DAY 6. SAMARKAND-TASHKENT
Breakfast at the hotel at 09:00. In this day, you will become acquainted with the city of blue domes and the capital of the Amir Temur’s empire. We will visit the tomb of the great ruler of the 14th century - Gur Emir and necropolis of Shakhi-Zinda. We will see the Registan Square with its triad of madrasah and mosque Bibi Khanum. Having lunch at the national house gives you opportunity to see the real life of an Uzbek family. We can have a cup of coffee in a cozy terrace near mosques and make wishes (here they all come true). Transfer to the railway station. Take a high-speed train Talgo to Tashkent. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Tashkent.
DAY 7. TASHKENT
After breakfast at the hotel, we leave it for a tour in Tashkent. Today you will discover the old and new parts of the capital of Uzbekistan. During this day, you will visit Khast-i-Imam complex, the monument of Courage and find out interesting information about the events of the 20th century. You will have a walk along the local Broadway square of Amir Temur, visit the Alisher Navoi theater, the Romanovs' house, Independence Square and the Museum of Applied Arts. You will have time after the end of the tour. Overnight at the hotel in Tashkent.
DAY 8. TASHKENT
Departure to the Chimgan mountains at 09:00. You will also visit the Charvak reservoir and the cableway. Return to the city. Free time. Overnight at the hotel in Tashkent.
DAY 9. TASHKENT
At 02:45 transfer to Tashkent International Airport (04:45-07:05).
